Choosing the perfect engagement ring is an all-important step for you and your partner. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the options.

Do you want an elegant 3 stone engagement ring or a vintage sapphire?

If you’re feeling spoilt for choice, why not take a leaf from royalty? Royals have been sporting beautiful engagement rings for centuries and inspire many couples when choosing their own ring.

You might have even spotted a beautiful ring worn by your favourite princess but you’re unsure what sort of ring it even is. And not all of us have family jewels handed down over generations to set into a ring. But there’s no reason why you can’t take some inspiration from the royals. To help you out, we have put together our favourite royal engagement rings.

Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Solitaire

A solitaire ring is a simple yet timeless engagement ring that features one central diamond. The late Prince Phillip gifted Elizabeth II a stunning diamond ring in 1947. The diamonds on this ring were especially meaningful to the Prince as they were taken from his mother’s tiara. If you are searching for a classic engagement ring that will stand the test of time, a solitaire engagement ring with a simple round diamond is an excellent choice.

Kate Middleton’s Sapphire

Sapphire engagement rings are a stunning, decidedly vintage choice for brides-to-be. And it doesn’t get more elegant than the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton’s, beautiful sapphire engagement ring. The Duchess’ engagement ring features a 12-carat oval sapphire embedded in a cluster of diamonds. The ring belonged to Prince William’s mother, the late Princess Diana. The ring is also inspired by a sapphire and diamond broach that Prince Albert gifted to Queen Victoria in the 19th century.

Meghan Markle’s Cushion Cut Diamond

The story of Prince Harry’s proposal to his wife, Meghan Markle, is one of our favourites. The couple said they were at home in their cosy cottage when the Prince got down on one knee. This simple yet incredibly romantic gesture was coupled with a beautiful cushion cut diamond engagement ring. Markle’s engagement ring is also a three stone ring, with the diamonds on either side of the central gem once belong to the Prince’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Wallis Simpson’s Emerald

King Edward VIII’s engagement to Wallis Simpson may have sparked controversy, but Simpson’s dazzling emerald engagement ring is a show-stopping choice. The platinum band meets a huge 20-karat emerald surrounded by baguette diamonds. The King even had the date of his proposal inscribed inside the band - “We are ours now 27 X 36” - the 27th of October 1936. Emerald engagement rings are a unique choice with a vintage feel, certainly worth presenting to a partner worth giving up a kingdom for.

Royal engagement rings are often filled with meaning. Jewels are handed down across generations and every choice is meaningful to the couple and the family. An engagement ring inspired by royalty is sure to get your future spouse’s heart racing when you pop the question. You don’t need to be a prince or princess to find a royalty-worthy engagement ring!
