Taipei Fashion Week has opened its Autumn/Winter 2023 season with “CrossLab: Dialogue between Traditional Performance, Craftsmanship and Fashion”.

Taipei Fashion Week got off to a great start by presenting its true essence: a spectacular mix of tradition, art, craftsmanship and innovation.

The opening show of this Autumn/Winter 2023 season saw 7 designers and 7 traditional craftsmanship and performing artists to represent the DNA of the Taipei Fashion Week because fashion is more than a part of the economic national landscape but a connection with the country's culture and history.

Taipei Fashion Week A/W 2023: The Show

The show was held in front of Nankunshen Daitian Temple in Tainan, one of the oldest and most historically important temples in Taiwan. With 360 years of history, Nankunshen Daitian Temple represents not only local Taiwanese life, but also the most essential fashion elements in each crucial historical moment. The core of contemporary Taiwan fashion derives from traditional craft culture, making Nankunshen Daitian Temple the perfect backdrop to display collections that pay homage to the preservation of tradition in modern times.

Taipei Fashion Week: The Mission

The show is the third in a trilogy of crossover collaborations at Taipei Fashion Week between contemporary fashion designers and traditional artisans, following the intertwining of contemporary visual art in S/S22 and the crossover of indigenous masters of crafts and artists in S/S23 shows. As with the previous crossover shows, this year’s opening show seamlessly blended art, craftsmanship, culture, and fashion to show new and exciting propositions for modern Taiwanese designs.

Taipei Fashion Week continues to move forward steadily with an emphasis on Taiwan's cultural pride as part of its plan to create an interdisciplinary fashion culture. The goal is to create a legacy where art and culture fuse in contemporary popular clothing, combining fashion with fields such as traditional crafts but also film, drama, popular music, and performing arts. Ultimately, Taipei Fashion Week aims to become an influential force in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on an international stage and become synonymous with respect for artistry, cultivating talent and driving endless creativity.

Following the opening show and the Sustainable Collection Show. Taipei Fashion Week will continue through April 8th. For the latest updates and scheduling information about this Autumn/Winter 2023 season’s runway collections, head to the tpefw website.
