FF shows are often seen as a unique alternative to other shows held during fashion week in the capital. FF often gives opportunities to emerging designers and models.
I was given an exclusive opportunity to attend one of Fashion Finest's LFW shows on Saturday February 18th, 2012. The line up was made up of three global designers with heritage and inspiration from the UK, Poland and Zambia.
Beata Guzinska
This collection presented warm colours with selective choices of African and European influence. The audience was treated to hooded and backless dresses .One particular kimono style dress stood out to me .This dress was vibrant in colour and was beautifully presented. The designer chose to use a taller model with a darker skin tone which really complemented the boldness of the dress. I also noticed that hair and makeup was simplified which minimised any distraction from the dress. The designer herself modelled a fabulous printed top and skirt combination with a coordinating head piece.
Smart Phiri
The second designer presented an all male catwalk. The clothing that was worn by the models were bright and vibrant pieces that combined both masculinity and cultural undertones .The pieces combined the symmetry of a collared shirt and an attached long flowing floor length gown. All of the models were bare foot and exhibited minimal emotion. The front of many of the garments displayed biblical references such as the last supper. The outfits were accessorised with chunky necklaces made of either solid or patterned materiel. The designer herself wore a similar print to her models however this was created and worn in the style of a hooded sweatshirt.
Fee Uhssi Designs
The final designer brought femininity back to the catwalk. The first piece to be shown could have easily been from the future. Gold and metallic silver in colour, this corset and fitted pencil skirt piece could only been seen as complementary on a shapely figure. The other pieces that followed were equally well presented. The designer used and abundance of floral throughout the collection which is on trend for this season. This collection was a combination of men and woman's clothing. The designer appeared to close the show accompanied by one of his most exciting creations. His model wore a full gown that reminded me of the costume of a powerful fashion superhero.
Once again
Fashion's Finest LFW show was well presented and beautifully turned out for all that attended .Complete with stalls and networking following show it appeared to be a fantastic experience for all.
