Lanre Da Silva Ajayi (LDA) could be today's face of Vogue Africa. Not many home-grown artists can overcome the limitations of culture and its surroundings, and pay admirable tribute to international and historical fashion with such ease and sophistication. Whilst retaining the influence of her Nigerian roots in choice of patterns and colour, Lanre has successfully mounted the global fashion stage several times as she carves her niche in combining 'print, exquisite and even traditional fabrics'. Also, its no mystery why this designer is known for her vintage style, as her motifs date as far back as the 1940s. Lanre's taste in pattern and material is exceptionally eye-opening for new designers like myself, paving the road away from purely culture-specific fashion to capturing quality and relevance. Notably, Lanre's ability to draw on international concepts has attracted sustainable success world wide.
From jumpsuits, to blazers, to high-waists, to slender shorts, Miss Ajayi is definitely hot on the trend thermometer. Here are some of my favourites from LDA's listed collections...enjoy!
