Pajama Trend Essentials for Fall
Friday, 28 September 2012
Love it or hate it, the 2012 spring/summer pajama trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere this fall. In other words, if you're tired of seeing lots of silk, satin and other flow-y fabrics on the runways, red carpets or streets, you'd better get with the program. Following the trend's wholehearted adoption by such style icons as Rihanna, Tilda Swinton, and Stella McCartney, it looks like the fall/winter season of 2012 is going to bring us more of the same: comfy shimmering blazers, slouchy trousers, flat shoes—and we're not just referring to ladies' outfits here. If, on the other hand, you're looking to embrace the trend yourself but aren't quite sure where to start, here are our suggestions for a few key pieces.

Slouchy Pants

Harem pants and jodhpurs have been around for several seasons now, and in 2012 they got a makeover with lots of different patterns and fabrics added into the mix. Block prints, geometric patterning and silk were especially popular in spring and summer, and experts predict they will be returning for the fall season.

The Updated Teddy

Teddies in either silk or satin, or with embroidered lace trims and spaghetti straps are incredibly sexy in the bedroom. Take them out into the street, to a cocktail party, or any other evening occasion and you're sure to turn heads. Of course, the main difference between a teddy and a teddy-inspired dress is length, closely followed by sheerness. While a few transparent spots here and there are welcome, make sure you don't overdo it with showing too much skin.

The Robe-like Gown

Robes wrap around the body and are especially flattering for pear-shaped figures. To boot, a full-length robe-like dress will also make the wearer appear taller. Feel free to pair it up with a pair of trendy heels, and, if on the shorter side, don't go for a gown with a pleated or otherwise full skirt, since the richness and shimmer of the fabric might overwhelm your petite figure.

Cute and Comfy Flats

No, they don't have to look like slippers in any way shape or form. Forget stepping out of the house in tasseled grandma slippers—the pajama trend works perfectly with a pair of stiletto heels or a daring platform shoe. However, canvas flats of the peep-toe variety are also an appropriate choice. You can also spring for suede moccasins, an excellent choice irrespective of their color or your gender, even. Girls may opt for a moccasin flat ankle bootie, while there are some great moccasin loafers on sale for the guys this season.
